Backpacks are a hot topic. To some they are the height of sophistication, while others view them as an accessory best reserved for school children. Still, brands such as Chanel and Gucci have embraced the backpack, which has resulted in the accessory being favoured by celebrities including Jenner sisters and Alexa Chung. To help you follow this trend, we’ve compiled a list of 5 independent backpack designers that we love.
Founded by sisters Katarina & Dominika Bucar in March 2015, Boo started with a simple drawstring backpack. Having expanded their range, the brand now provides signature designs that express a clean, minimal and modern style. The minimal trend isn't going anywhere for the next few years, which makes a Boo bag a worthwhile investment.
Tomas Brilliance was founded by Tomas Mfita and launched in 2015. While working as a postman, Mfita was inspired by the colourful envelopes and packages that he delivered, and so the vision for his brand was born. His striking range of bags are hand created in London using the finest crafting techniques. Bright colours are a key trend of SS17, with pink in particular dominating the runways in Paris and Milan. Follow this trend with a bag by one of our favourite independent backpack designers in pale pink, or go bold with bright green.
Feminine. Modern. Playful. There are just a few words that describe Cathias Edeline’s backpacks. Designer Adeline Catinas created the brand to combine her passion for beauty and accessories. Since launching herself as one of the most exciting new independent backpack designers, Catinas has refined her soft and sophisticated style, creating bags that are striking but but not opulent.
These leather bags from Dreams Code are ideal for carrying all of your summer essentials, from sun cream to shades. Dreams Code aim to combine traditional embroidery techniques with modern aesthetics, creating designs that embrace folk culture. The embroidered detail on these beautiful bags is handmade by craftsmen in the Yunnan and Dali region, with the rest of the accessory being constructed in England. This painstaking process makes them one of the most unique independent backpack designers on our list!
Did someone say fringe? Ozerianko design leather and textile rucksacks that reflect the individuality of the wearer. Emblazoned with unique hand-painted patterns, these striking bags are sure to catch people’s eyes all summer long.
